I have a background in working with students across a range of subjects and disciplines. I can support with academic writing, presentations and referencing. I also have lots of experience of helping students with research, academic integrity and digital skills.

How to find journal articles in the Library Portal

Journal articles are one of the main forms of academic source that you’ll encounter during your studies. This workshop will introduce you to advanced search techniques and show you how to find high-quality journal articles, using both the Library Portal and academic databases.

Thomson Reuters are running a full programme of webinars from August to December 2023 to help students become more confident and experienced with the full range of databases, including Westlaw UK, Westlaw International and Practical Law.

Coming up with an opening line for this article was quite challenging. The main thing I knew for certain, was that when my tutor asked for volunteers, I had to be part of it. I thought to myself, people don’t talk enough about making the decision to study at a later age, where responsibilities, work and life create a more challenging environment. Having read articles in the past of people changing careers, or going back to university and eventually becoming successful is great and incredibly optimistic!

I've spent the last 5 years teaching English in Tokyo, where I studied Japanese, gaining an understanding of the challenges and rewards of learning a second language. I've also taught in Spain and Italy and completed a master's degree. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals and supporting your acquisition of academic language!

Saima Javed's Bio

My background is in English Language, Forensic Linguistics and Translation studies. I specialise Academic Skills such as paraphrasing, creating essay outlines, grammar and vocabulary. Having an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages alongside being fluent in both English and Urdu, I can understand the possible challenges students experience in translating and writing at university level.
