What will I learn?

We understand that studying in a new country and communicating in a second language can be challenging.

The Academic Writing in English course is designed by English language experts and aimed at students who speak English as an additional language. If you want to improve your academic English skills for university-level study, our supportive Arden lecturers will guide you step-by-step.

No English language test is required to join, and all materials are available on iLearn.

Academic Writing in English 1 and Academic Writing in English 2 run every study block.

The course will help you to:
  • Improve fluency, accuracy and confidence in speaking English
  • Review and practise fundamental grammar
  • Develop academic writing skills for essays and reports, helping you to improve your marks. Identify and avoid common mistakes made by international students
  • Enhance communication skills for presentations and professional emails
  • Understand higher education expectations and gain useful cultural insights

  • Newly enrolled daytime blended learning students will be contacted about Academic Writing in English 1. You will see it on your ilearn. Just attend your first timetabled session.
