There’s an exciting new addition to the Library collection – British Standards Online (BSOL)!

Elevate your academic and industry knowledge with this fantastic resource giving you access to a wealth of internationally recognised standards.

What is a standard?

Used across industries and professions throughout the world, standards are documents that provide rules, specifications or characteristics for materials, products and processes to ensure consistency – important stuff!

Access to the standards you need

Containing the full text of over 100,000 British and adopted European and International standards, BSOL is a brilliant database for any student that needs access to internationally recognised standards across a vast range of sectors and industries.

Stay ahead of the game

BSOL is the flagship platform of the British Standards Institution (BSI) so you can rest assured that the standards you access are accurate and up to date!

The database is maintained and updated daily so you can stay informed on the latest best practice and compliance guidelines in your profession.

Using the database

The easiest way to find a standard is to search for it (e.g. ISO 27000) in the search box but you can also browse for standards by subject and module. Use the QuickView icon to view standards online.

Due to the BSI's Digital Rights Management on their files, you’ll need to install the FileOpen plugin for Adobe Acrobat on your device if you want to download or print any standards.

How do I access BSOL?

You can access BSOL via the Library’s A-Z List of Databases on the Learning Success Hub (LSH) or by going to the BSOL website directly and choosing 'Institutional Login', then 'OpenAthens Login' and typing 'Arden' in the search box.

If you use the A-Z of Databases on the LSH, you can click ‘Guidance’ for more help with using BSOL.

If you have any questions or feedback, please get in touch with us at libraries@arden.ac.uk.

Happy standards searching!
