We’re pleased to share the addition of the ScienceDirect Freedom Collection to our Library Portal!

ScienceDirect is a collection providing access to more than 18 million articles, book chapters from over 2,650 peer-reviewed journals and 42,000 e-books, including books, book series and major reference works. A great resource for all subject areas, ScienceDirect is a world-leading, peer-reviewed and high-quality academic database—an exceptional addition to the library service.

To get started with ScienceDirect you’ll find a direct link on each of your Subject Guides and in the A-Z List of Databases - simply click through and you’ll be directed to the ScienceDirect homepage.

ScienceDirect is easy to use to search around your latest lesson or assignment. If you’re looking to start simple, you can do a “Quick Search” through the search bar at the top of the homepage. Simply enter a keyword, author or title in the relevant boxes and hit “search”!

You can then filter your results quickly and easily down the left-hand side depending on what sort of resource you’re looking for, including:

  • Date / Year
  • Article Type
  • Publication
  • Subject Type

If you’d like to delve a little bit deeper into ScienceDirect and its resources, you can also Advanced Search by choosing this option on the homepage, and then searching more specifically by publication, volume, issue, author or title.

Don’t forget to make use of the great extra features, helping you keep track of your resources, including:

  • My Recommendations - a tailored set of suggested resources, based on your recent search/reading activity
  • My Search History - a record of your last 100 unique searches
  • My Reading History - a downloadable list of all the resources you’ve read

All of these features are available in the top-right of ScienceDirect, by your name.

You can also set up a search alert to notify you of updates to recent search queries and favourite publications in your area of interest! To learn how, simply check out this quick and handy guidance page.

We hope you enjoy exploring the fantastic tools and resources that ScienceDirect have on offer - please let us know your thoughts via our Feedback Form here, with every submission being entered into our quarterly prize draw as well!
