Introduction to HeinOnline

Accessibility Features

Browser compatibility

HeinOnline supports all major browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, and Google Chrome.

Read Aloud

No inbuilt function but website is compatible with the following screen readers: JAWS, NVDA, Voiceover. Please note, this is just a list of recommended screen readers, the platform may be compatible with other screen readers.

Change text size

Some pages become unreadable when zoomed to 200% because HeinOnline contains exact replicas of material as it appeared in its original printed versions. General guidance on making text size larger can be found on Abilitynet.

Use of Colour

Colour is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element.

Flashing content

The website contains no flashing content

Change background colour

No inbuilt function. Use browser settings to change colours, contrast levels and fonts (see Abilitynet for guidance). ColorVeil (available through AppsAnywhere) is effective for eye strain reduction, Dyslexia, Visual Stress or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome.

Keyboard navigation

The website and content should be navigable using just a keyboard and there are no known keyboard traps. Content should maintain a meaningful sequence when using assistive technology.

Read offline

Documents can be downloaded as PDFs to read offline. If using a screen reader, we recommend viewing PDF content on Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat as PDF content will often be more readable and more easily navigated by screen readers in Adobe Reader.
