Accessibility Features

Read Aloud

Articles can be listened to using the option in the toolbar on the online HTML version of articles. The audio can also be downloaded as an MP3 file. Choose the Listen link in the HTML full text record of an article to hear the audio file. The platform and content are also compatible with a range of screen readers including NVDA, JAWS and Voiceover.

Change text size

Text size can be changed either by using the toolbar on the top of HTML articles or by using browser zoom functionality to enlarge text up to 200%. Most browsers will allow you to change the font size. Guidance on making text size larger can be found on Abilitynet

Change background colour

No inbuilt function. Use browser settings to change colours, contrast levels and fonts (see Abilitynet for guidance).

ColorVeil (available through AppsAnywhere) is effective for eye strain reduction, Dyslexia, Visual Stress or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome).

The font style can also be changed using the inbuilt toolbar on HTML articles.

Keyboard navigation

Site and content should be fully navigable using just a keyboard with no keyboard traps.

Read offline

Articles can be downloaded as PDFs where available, with no Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions. If using a screen reader, we recommend viewing PDF content on Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat as PDF content will often be more readable and more easily navigated by screen readers in Adobe Reader.
