Help using this resource

Logging in

  1. Click on Institutional Login.
  2. Click on Open Athens login.
  3. Type “Arden” in the search box. A link will be displayed. Click on the link and enter your Arden Office 365 credentials. 

Finding a standard 

The easiest way to find a standard is to search for the standard number (e.g. ISO 27000) in the search box.

You can also browse for standards by subject or module.

Viewing standards online 

You can view standards online using the QuickView icon.

Downloading and printing 

BSI have added Digital Rights Management to files which means that if you wish to download or print a standard you will first need to install FileOpen on your device. This is a plugin for Adobe Acrobat.

Read Aloud

No inbuilt function but website is compatible with the following screen readers: JAWS, NVDA, Voiceover. Please note, this is just a list of recommended screen readers, the platform may be compatible with other screen readers. 

Change text size

No inbuilt function. Use browser Zoom function to enlarge text (up to 300%). Most browsers will allow you to change the font size. Guidance on making text size larger can be found on Abilitynet

Change background colour

No inbuilt function. Use browser settings to change colours, contrast levels and fonts (see Abilitynet for guidance). 

ColorVeil (available through AppsAnywhere) is effective for eye strain reduction, Dyslexia, Visual Stress or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome).

Keyboard navigation 

Keyboard only navigation is limited. Access to the references in the results list, performing advanced searches and browsing may be compromised.  

Read offline

Articles can be downloaded as PDFs but as files are secured with digital rights management (DRM) the FileOpen plug-in must be installed. See Guidance.

  • Print one hard copy of a Licensed Document for personal use (not exceeding 5% of the total Licensed Documents).
  • Download one electronic copy of a Licensed Document (not to exceed 5% of the total Licensed Documents).
  • Copy and paste up to 10% of a Licensed Document into another internal document, with the correct copyright statement: ""Copyright BSI © [Date]"".
  • Use content only within the University and for educational or non-commercial purposes.

What You Can’t Do

  • Print or download content to build up a hard copy or electronic collection that exceeds 5% of the total Licensed Documents.
  • Circulate or email licensed content electronically.
  • Alter, adapt, or edit the words or structure of any Licensed Document.
  • Remove or obscure copyright notices, disclaimers, or other acknowledgments.
  • Display or distribute material on public networks, including the internet.
  • Use any content for commercial purposes or purposes other than education.
  • Provide access to non-authorised users.
